Graphics

Texts in graphics

Texts which are integrated directly in graphics often demand time-consuming editing. The modification of pixel-based graphics is very complicated if the text is just pixels as well and needs to be translated; text should always be editable. Some graphics programs have problems with Cyrillic and Asian characters. Therefore, text should generally be avoided in graphics and replaced by legends in the actual text.

Cultural characteristics

It is also important to make sure that the graphics used are "culturally neutral". Illustrations or symbols which could be considered insulting or inapropriate by the concerned countries should not be used. For some cultural areas even the use of certain colors is a delicate issue.

Culture-specific elements cannot only be found in warning signs, maps or currency symbols, but also in illustrations of everyday objects or technical devices.
