Translation Memory System (TMS)

What is a Translation Memory?

A TMS is a translation tool, which can be employed in the translation process. This tool however is not an automatic machine translation program.

"Machine translation" means the computer "translates" by itself using dictionaries. This technique is only useful for a very limited application range, as the computer does not dispose of sufficient cognitive ability, i.e. it cannot interpret e.g. ambiguous terms adequately.

This is why only TMS is used for professional translation. The Translation Memory System supports the work of the human translator interactively by saving the translated units and suggesting them as possible translations for similar units.

This tool gives you an added advantage for the translation of all of your specialized texts: Any sentence which has already been translated in the same context will not be translated again, but will be adopted exactly as before. This method ensures constant high quality and consistency for all your texts. In short: The more you have translated, the more efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality the result will be!

CONDOK predominantly uses the database-oriented TMS "Transit" by the company STAR AG and the TMS "Trados" by the company SDL. Upon customer request we use other TMS as well.
